Quad Cities, IA/IL — A wintry mix of snow and freezing rain will impact the Iowa-Illinois border region Sunday morning, creating hazardous travel conditions. Motorists should prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility during the early hours of the day.
According to the National Weather Service, precipitation will begin late Saturday night and intensify into Sunday morning. A combination of freezing rain and light snow is expected, with temperatures hovering near freezing at 27–34°F. While snow accumulation will remain below half an inch, icy surfaces could lead to dangerous driving conditions on major routes, including I-74 and Highway 61.
Sunday morning’s freezing rain could linger until midday before transitioning to light rain as temperatures rise. Winds will remain light, but gusts up to 15 mph are possible. As colder air returns late Sunday night, roads could refreeze, particularly on untreated surfaces.
The outlook for Monday sees colder, sunny conditions with highs around 17°F and overnight lows near 3°F. Tuesday and Wednesday remain clear but frigid, with daytime highs struggling to reach the teens and lows dipping into single digits.
Travelers are urged to allow extra time, use caution on bridges and overpasses, and stay updated on road conditions. Local authorities recommend delaying unnecessary trips until the wintry mix clears and roads improve.
