Indianapolis, IN – Snowfall is creating hazardous conditions across central Indiana, with accumulations of up to 4 inches expected by early Saturday. A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 1 a.m. Saturday, as road conditions worsen and visibility drops to a half-mile in some areas. Drivers are urged to slow down and avoid unnecessary travel.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snow began Friday afternoon and is expected to intensify overnight. I-70 and other major highways have reported icy patches, while untreated secondary roads remain snow-covered. Central Indiana could see an additional 1–3 inches of snow accumulation tonight, with locally higher amounts possible south of Indianapolis.

The forecast shows snow tapering off Saturday morning, followed by mostly cloudy skies and a high near 26°F. However, subzero wind chills are expected Sunday night into early next week, with overnight lows plunging to 6°F Monday night. Freezing drizzle may return Sunday, creating more slippery conditions.

Residents are advised to monitor local updates and prepare for icy sidewalks and freezing roads through the weekend. If traveling, check the latest road conditions via Indiana’s 511 system. Experts also recommend shoveling snow promptly to reduce ice buildup and avoid potential injuries.

Looking ahead, dry but frigid conditions are forecast Monday and Tuesday, with highs only reaching the mid-20s. The next chance for significant precipitation arrives midweek, potentially bringing more snow and ice to the region.
