Huntsville, AL – North Alabama residents are bracing for a week of freezing temperatures, with lows plummeting into the teens and 20s starting Monday night. The National Weather Service warns that wind chills could make conditions feel even colder, creating potentially dangerous scenarios for those unprepared.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, Monday’s high will barely reach 41°F, and overnight lows will drop to 18°F. Tuesday and Wednesday follow with similar forecasts: daytime highs in the mid-30s and nighttime temperatures dipping into the lower 20s. Officials stress the importance of space heater safety as residents attempt to stay warm.
Residents should ensure heaters are placed on flat, non-flammable surfaces and maintain a 3-foot clearance from furniture and drapes. Avoid using extension cords, as they increase fire risks. Never leave a space heater running unattended, especially while sleeping.
In addition to preparing homes, residents should dress in layers, avoid prolonged exposure to the cold, and check on elderly neighbors or those without adequate heating. Freezing fog is also possible late Sunday night, which could reduce visibility for drivers.
The extended forecast offers slight relief later this week, with highs nearing 46°F by Thursday. However, with cold nights continuing, Huntsville residents should remain vigilant and follow weather updates.
