Duluth, MN – A significant winter storm is sweeping through northeastern Minnesota, bringing heavy snowfall and hazardous travel conditions to the region this weekend. Widespread snowfall between 2 to 5 inches is expected today, with localized totals reaching up to 10 inches along Minnesota’s North Shore.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the heaviest snow will fall Saturday night into Sunday morning, accompanied by strong winds creating areas of reduced visibility. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until Sunday afternoon for Lake and Cook counties, including key areas along Highway 61.

Residents are urged to limit non-essential travel as roads will likely be slippery and difficult to navigate. Those venturing out are advised to check the latest road conditions at 511mn.org and ensure vehicles are equipped with winter safety gear.

Tonight, temperatures will drop to a low of 19°F, with wind gusts reaching 30 mph. These conditions will create blowing and drifting snow, especially in open areas. On Sunday, blustery winds will continue as snowfall tapers off by mid-afternoon.

Looking ahead, Monday will bring mostly sunny skies but bitterly cold conditions, with daytime highs near 10°F and wind chills making it feel even colder. The weather is expected to moderate slightly by Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs climbing back into the low 20s and a chance of light flurries midweek.

Stay tuned to the NWS for updated forecasts and plan ahead for challenging travel conditions over the next 24 to 48 hours.
