Grand Junction, CO – Colorado residents can expect gusty winds and snow showers to linger along the Continental Divide into tonight. A passing weather disturbance is bringing up to two inches of snow to mountain areas, while valleys remain cold and dry.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Junction, gusts of 25-35 mph will continue through the evening, creating hazardous travel conditions, especially in higher elevations. Tonight’s lows will drop into the single digits and below zero in mountain zones, with desert valleys seeing temperatures in the teens. Residents are urged to dress in layers and avoid extended exposure to the cold.
Friday’s forecast offers a brief respite, with sunny skies and highs near 38 degrees in Grand Junction. However, the calm won’t last long as a system moves in late Friday night, bringing a slight chance of snow showers to the area. Weekend temperatures will remain below seasonal averages, with highs in the mid-30s and lows dipping into the teens.
Mountain travelers should prepare for accumulating snow over the weekend, especially in the Flat Tops and central mountains. Slick and icy conditions are expected on key routes, including Interstate 70 and U.S. 550. Those planning to drive should monitor road conditions and consider delaying travel if necessary.
Extended forecasts suggest cold but dry conditions into early next week, with highs climbing to the low 40s by Tuesday.
