White House spokesperson John Kirby revealed on Friday that North Korea has dispatched over 1,000 containers of military gear and ammunition to Russia for its ongoing conflict in Ukraine

John Kirby asserted that the U.S. suspects Kim is aiming to acquire advanced Russian weaponry technology in exchange for the provided munitions, bolstering North Korea‘s military and nuclear capabilities.

The White House shared images illustrating the containers being loaded onto a Russian-flagged vessel, and then transported via train to southwestern Russia. The shipping took place between September 7 and October 1, between Najin, North Korea, and Dunay, Russia, according to official sources.

John Kirby condemned the DPRK’s contribution of military equipment to Russia, asserting it would be used against Ukrainian cities and civilians, exacerbating Russia’s unlawful war

John Kirby further stated that in return, North Korea is likely seeking military aid from Russia, potentially including fighter aircraft, surface-to-air missiles, armored vehicles, ballistic missile production machinery, and other advanced technologies.

As this revelation emerged, North Korea reacted strongly to the arrival of a U.S. aircraft carrier battle group in South Korea, labeling it a provocation and raising the possibility of resorting to nuclear weapons for self-defense. The U.S. has previously accused North Korea of providing arms to Russia, which North Korea has denied. These events occur amid escalating tensions between North Korea and the United States, with experts speculating on potential arms deals between North Korea and Russia in violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions.
