Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev Issues Warning on Taurus Missile Supply to Ukraine

Former Russian President Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev has issued a stark warning, asserting that if Germany decides to supply Taurus missiles to Ukraine, the factories producing these weapons in Germany would become legitimate targets for Russian strikes.

Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev emphasized that British troops engaging in training operations within Ukraine would also be deemed “legal targets” for Russian military action

Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev stated this in a post on Telegram over the weekend. Meanwhile, British Defense Minister Grant Shapps has indicated discussions regarding the potential relocation of military hardware production and training to Ukrainian territory. However, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak downplayed these remarks, emphasizing that any such move would be a long-term consideration.

NATO, while maintaining that it is not at war with Russia, is providing support to Kyiv in response to Moscow’s invasion. There are concerns that certain events, including a Russian strike on Ukrainian soil resulting in the deaths of NATO officials, could inadvertently escalate the conflict.

Taurus missiles, similar to the Storm Shadow/SCALP cruise missiles sent by France and the U.K. to Ukraine, have the capacity to extend Ukraine’s striking range into Russian-held areas, posing a challenge to Moscow’s air defense strategies

While Berlin has hesitated to supply Taurus missiles, Ukrainian officials have consistently sought them. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has delayed approving the delivery of Taurus missiles, expressing concerns about the involvement of German personnel in the operation of these weapons in Ukraine. This decision reflects apprehension about becoming further entangled in the ongoing conflict and potentially facing off directly against Moscow.
