Iran Denies U.S. Accusations of Involvement in Red Sea Ship Attacks by Houthi Rebels

According to Bagheri, Iran-aligned Houthi rebels were acting autonomously. Over 100 drone and missile strikes on merchant vessels were reported by militants in solidarity with Gazans. A White House report accused Iran of providing drones, missiles, and tactical intelligence to the Houthis.

Bagheri said the Houthis make their own decisions and use their tools. He said U.S. and Israeli strikes should not be used to doubt the resistance. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said the U.S. has asked Iran to caution Yemeni rebels against meddling in U.S. and Israeli interests. Iran confirmed that it did not instruct rebels to stop attacks.

Israel promised to smash Hamas after a cross-border attack caused deaths in Gaza following 11 weeks of air and ground attacks. Hamas-supporting Iran praised the bombing but denied involvement. Iran supports rebel organizations’ decision-making freedom, Amir-Abdollahian said. According to President Ebrahim Raisi, Iran must encourage these groups, highlighting their autonomy.
