The verdict, delivered by a jury, includes charges of first-degree intentional homicide and two counts of theft related to the 2018 incident, according to a press release from the Waukesha County District Attorney’s office.
A Wisconsin resident named Jessy Kurczewski was declared guilty on Tuesday for the deliberate poisoning of her friend, Lynn Hernan, using eye drops
The unfortunate episode unfolded when Lynn Hernan was discovered lifeless in her Pewaukee residence in October 2018, with crushed medication found on her chest. Jessy Kurczewski, who identified herself as a family friend, informed the police that she had been checking on Hernan daily and suggested the possibility of suicide. The medical examiner later determined the cause of death as a homicide, revealing the presence of tetrahydrozoline, a Visine ingredient, in Hernan’s system.
Detectives revealed that Jessy Kurczewski had orchestrated the scene to resemble a suicide
Moreover, she confessed to bringing a water bottle loaded with six bottles’ worth of Visine to Hernan. The inquiry also uncovered Jessy Kurczewski’s embezzlement of $290,000 from the victim.
The prosecution expressed satisfaction with the verdict, extending condolences to Hernan’s family. Abbey Nickolie, the deputy district attorney, emphasized the importance of the decision in sending a strong message to the community about society’s intolerance for intentionally taking someone’s life. Jessy Kurczewski is scheduled for sentencing on December 7, 2023, with the homicide charge mandating a life sentence and an additional decade of imprisonment for each theft count, as per prosecutors.
