Wendi Adelson, the key witness in the murder trial of her ex-brother-in-law, Charlie Adelson, testified on Thursday, asserting her innocence and denying any knowledge of the alleged murder-for-hire plot

During her testimony, Wendi Adelson, granted use immunity, repeatedly refuted claims that Markel’s death was for her benefit. She emphasized that despite a contentious divorce, they had moved on with their lives. The state argued that Markel’s motion to prevent unsupervised contact between Charlie and Wendi’s mother and their grandchildren was pending at the time of his murder, suggesting a motive.

The state also highlighted Wendi Adelson’s initial statements to law enforcement regarding her family’s sentiments toward Markel

They questioned her about a joke made by Charlie Adelson about hiring a hitman, which she acknowledged was in poor taste but denied being a genuine admission.

Wendi Adelson stated that she only learned recently about her brother’s girlfriend, Katherine Magbanua’s involvement and her knowledge of the murder. Magbanua was convicted in 2022 for her role in the conspiracy.

As the state’s questioning concluded, Wendi Adelson expressed her desire for the responsible parties to be held accountable, affirming her gratitude for their incarceration.
