Legislators have submitted modifications to the Financial Services and General Government (FSGG) appropriations bill which would prohibit candidates from having their drug tested for marijuana while seeking the majority of federal positions. The bill is scheduled to be considered by the House Rules Committee shortly.
A recently submitted proposal that would specifically permit Washington, D.C., the nation’s capital, to create recreational marijuana businesses accessible to anybody 21 years of age and older, would also be discussed by the committee. D.C. currently permits medical marijuana shops but not retail establishments for recreational use.
Representative Robert Garcia (D) of California sponsored the amendment, which aims to eliminate federal marijuana screening for candidates. Representative Garcia has previously introduced similar amendments connected to other spending measures.
