Unlicensed Caregiver Operated a Private Daycare Center

Kimberly Henretty, a 59-year-old unlicensed caregiver, was arrested after authorities received a report about a 4-month-old infant having a cardiac arrest at a private daycare center she operated located at the 5000 block of Thomas Court.

According to the James City County Police Department, authorities and EMS personnel immediately responded to save the infant under the care of the unlicensed caregiver; however, they couldn’t do so, and the infant was pronounced dead. The authorities ruled the infant’s death as sudden unexplained infant death or SUID.

Following the infant’s death, the unlicensed caregiver faced charges of child abuse and neglect, cruelty and injury, and charges connected with operating an unlicensed private daycare center, True Crime Daily reported.

During the investigation, authorities discovered 10 children aged 5 years old at the daycare center operated by Henretty.

The unlicensed caregiver failed to comply with the regulations in Virginia that do not allow an unlicensed caregiver to have more than four children under their care.

The unlicensed caregiver was denied bond when she turned herself in and waited days for a bond hearing, where her denial was upheld.
