Trae Bennett, a 28-year-old man, was apprehended by Fort Wayne Police following an extended standoff at a residence in the 3700 block of S. Barr Street

Eventually, they resorted to using a battering ram to breach the front door before taking Trae Bennett into custody. Trae Bennett faces charges of Domestic Battery causing moderate bodily injury, Invasion of privacy with a prior conviction, and criminal confinement, as confirmed by the police. The incident unfolded when officers responded to a battery report at the Barr Street residence around 3 p.m. on Wednesday. The victim, who identified Trae Bennett as her boyfriend, reported being assaulted. She exhibited extensive bruising, two black eyes, and significant swelling on the right side of her face, according to court documents.

Regrettably, this wasn’t an isolated event. The victim disclosed that Trae Bennett had previously attacked her on September 22, even causing her to lose consciousness. Legal records indicate a disturbing history of domestic violence involving Trae Bennett and the victim. It was further revealed that an active order of protection against Trae Bennett had been issued on June 26.

The victim informed an FWPD victim advocate that Trae Bennett was preventing her from leaving the residence

Shockingly, Trae Bennett was unaware of the victim’s communication with the advocate. Negotiators made repeated efforts to establish contact with both Trae Bennett and the woman but received no response. Police were increasingly concerned that the woman was being held against her will.

Ultimately, Trae Bennett emerged from the home after officers employed “less lethal gas munitions.” The successful resolution of this standoff underscores the dedicated efforts of Fort Wayne law enforcement in protecting victims of domestic violence.
