The California National Guard along with other state agencies would assist the city of San Francisco in its fight over a current fentanyl issue, according to Governor Gavin Newsom.
The Guard and the California Highway Patrol would assist overworked local authorities as a result of a public security collaboration that was announced on Friday.
The Guard, CHP, San Francisco Sheriff Department, & city’s district attorney’s office will work together as a result of a “collaborative action among all 4 agencies aimed at destroying fentanyl trafficking and interrupting the distribution of the dangerous drug in the city,” according to Newsom.
The National Guard and CHP were instructed by the governor to determine what resources they each have that may be used to tackle the fentanyl outbreak.
“2 truths may co-exist during the same period: San Francisco’s violent crime rate is lower than comparably major towns like Jacksonville and Fort Worth — yet there is additionally extra we should be doing to tackle security issues, mainly the fentanyl situation,” Newsom stated.
