The US Army has identified the deceased as Chief Warrant Officer 3 Christopher Robert Eramo, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Kyle D. McKenna, and Warrant Officer 1 Stewart Duane Wayment.
A military training flight ended in tragedy when two AH-64 Apache helicopters collided near Healy, Alaska, killing three soldiers and injuring another
The fourth soldier has been taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and is in stable condition. The helicopters were returning from a training flight when the incident occurred around 100 miles south of their base at Fort Wainwright. The crash comes less than a month after two HH-60 Black Hawk helicopters crashed during a nighttime training mission near Fort Campbell, Kentucky, killing nine soldiers.
The Army has initiated a safety stand down, requiring all Army aviators to complete the required training and focus on safety and training protocols to ensure the safe completion of their missions.
An Army Combat Readiness Center team will investigate the crash
Maj. Gen. Brian Eifler, commanding general of the 11th Airborne Division, offered condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers and expressed confidence in the military community’s ability to provide support during this difficult time. Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy sent his thoughts and prayers to the soldiers involved in the incident.
