According to court documents obtained by CBS station KUTV, FBI agents shot and killed a man in Provo, Utah, earlier today, who investigators believe made several threats on social media specifically Facebook against President Joe Biden’s life and at least two others.
After the publicity of his threats on social media against President Biden, the incident occurred as investigators attempted to serve ‘arrest and search’ warrants on Craig Robertson at his home in Provo near 400 North and 1200 West.
According to KUTV, an arrest warrant was issued for Robertson after he made threats on social media to kill FBI agents, planned to kill the New York County District Attorney, and posted on Facebook that he would use his sniper rifle when President Biden arrived in Utah, according to a redacted felony complaint filed in US District Court.
Mr. Robertson possessed multiple firearms, including a sniper rifle, according to the court complaint. The complaint also detailed his history of threats on social media, in which he referred to his guns as Democratic eradicators.
Last year, he posted a photo of three weapons and stated he was “getting ready for the 2024 election cycle,” and he constantly mocked the agents investigating him, saying they were on the verge of “violent eradication.”
Other threats on social media indicated Mr. Robertson’s plan to kill Mr. Biden and Mr. Bragg, who is leading a prosecution of Mr. Trump in New York in connection with a hush money payment to a porn star during his 2016 campaign, according to the complaint.
He wrote, “First Joe, then Kamala.” He stated in other threats on social media that he wanted to shoot Mr. Bragg in the head and watch him die.
The threats on social media also addressed George Soros, the Democratic megadonor and financier who has been a focus of Mr. Trump and Republicans in Congress, and mimicked Mr. Trump’s assaults on Mr. Bragg and Mr. Soros.
Mr. Robertson also has made threats on social media against Attorney General Merrick B. Garland, whom he called a Nazi, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, and New York Attorney General Letitia James.
The FBI issued a statement saying, “The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously.” Apart from the threats on social media, it is unclear what happened in the moments immediately up to the shooting on Wednesday.
The FBI representative went on to say, “In accordance with FBI policy, the shooting incident is under review by the FBI’s Inspection Division. As this is an ongoing matter, we have no further details to provide.”
President Biden was scheduled to arrive at Salt Lake City International Airport on Wednesday afternoon to visit the Veteran’s Hospital and promote the Pact Act’s one-year anniversary.
