Former McLennan County resident, Thomas Webb, 64, was labeled the epitome of malevolence by a prosecutor as he received a life sentence without parole on Monday for the continuous sexual abuse of at least five young girls and one boy.
Thomas Webb was found guilty of abusing two young sisters, now teenagers, at residences in Waco and Axtell during their elementary school years
The older sister testified that the abuse persisted for nearly a decade. While Thomas Webb was on trial for the abuse of the two sisters, two other family members also attested to being sexually abused by him. Additionally, two of their friends revealed that Thomas Webb had inappropriately touched them under the guise of play in a swimming pool. Prosecutors Liz Buice and Tara Avants commended the efforts of investigators from various agencies.
Webb’s defense attorney, Sylvia Cavazos, sought a minimum sentence of 25 years, emphasizing that without the possibility of parole, it would likely translate to a life sentence
Despite the disappointment, Cavazos expressed hope for closure for the family and victims. Presiding juror Anthony Suter emphasized that Thomas Webb’s age did not sway their unanimous decision on sentencing, underscoring the profound impact he had on numerous lives. Prosecutors characterized Webb as a narcissistic, manipulative predator who exploited his financial means to groom his victims.
Cavazos, however, portrayed Thomas Webb as a caring father, long-time softball coach, and benefactor to extended family members. Webb, who did not testify, has consistently denied the allegations. McLennan County District Attorney Josh Tetens welcomed the prison sentence, asserting that Thomas Webb’s victims can now find solace in knowing he will never harm anyone again.
