A small town in southeast Minnesota might no longer have a police force since the whole force suddenly left, according to officials.
The mayor of Goodhue, Ellen Anderson Buck, stated at a City Council meeting on Monday that the resignation of the police force was caused by problems with the city’s salary. As per its website, the town, which is in the same name county, has a little over 1,000 residents.
The City Council gathered to talk about possibilities for police protection following the resignation of the department. The team as a whole resigned before the town might debate departmental wage hikes, which was the original purpose of the discussion.
At a City Council meeting last Wednesday, Police Chief Josh Smith announced his resignation, according to The Associated Press. After learning about Smith, a full-time cop and 5 part-timers quit 2 days later.
Anderson Buck opened the meeting by stating, “As the resignations were given in by our police force, it is being suggested by our city lawyer that at the moment we must look into our other choices.”
