The Westchester District Attorney ends an inquiry into the Trump Organization without filing any indictments

The Westchester County district attorney’s Department has closed its criminal inquiry into the Trump Organization without filing any accusations, according to an individual close to the investigate providing Donald Trump with an unusual piece of positive legal news.

Early in June, according to the source, district attorney Mimi Rocah discovered the inquiry.

In late 2022, Rocah fired Elliott Jacobson, a special investigator he had hired. An individual whose real name was disclosed to Insider but that wasn’t allowed to talk on the matter, said that the investigator discovered that the evidence gathered during the inquiry did not support charges of criminality, considered actions beyond the statute of restrictions, or merged with investigations being conducted by other law enforcement agencies.

The office of the New York attorney general had authority over a large portion of the information. The attorney general’s office has the authority to file civil actions, whereas the district attorney’s department is only permitted to take on criminal prosecutions.

Letitia James, the attorney general of New York, filed a significant civil complaint against the Trump Organization in September. The case will go to a court trial in October.
