On Wednesday, the Montana House Republicans decided to dismiss Democratic Representative Zooey Zephyr.

The 68 House Republicans who were present voted in favor of criticism, whereas the 32 Democrats boycotted.

During the rest of the legislative meeting, Zephyr, who was among the state’s first publicly transgender legislators, will not be permitted on the House floor, anteroom, or balcony. She can take part remotely, however, she can just cast a vote.

Zephyr was prevented from speaking on a bill for over a week after she claimed that legislators that voted to approve a measure prohibiting transgender children from receiving gender-affirming medical care were putting “blood on your hands.”

In response, the Montana Freedom Caucus, a group of state House and Senate Republicans, demanded Zephyr be immediately censured, charging that she had used “inappropriate and unasked-for language” to humiliate lawmakers.
