The corporation has to reclaim the “swagger and innovation” of its initial years, according to CNN’s new CEO, and part of that is embracing a future beyond television.
Mark Thompson, who joined CNN as CEO last autumn following positions at The New York Times and the BBC, presented his strategy to his workers on Wednesday. It included a corporate restructure, but it provided few external details about how that change will be implemented.
Thompson claimed in his memo that CNN, once a “scrappy outsider,” has been sluggish to adapt to the fact that its core television business is contracting. The Associated Press was not granted access to speak with him in person.
