The California Senate has approved a bill that will permit marijuana cafes and permit live music in marijuana stores

Assembly Bill 374 was approved by the Senate in its 2nd session yesterday, one day before it was approved by the Committee on Business, Professions, and Economic Development by a vote of 11 to 1. Before being delivered to Governor Gavin Newsom, the measure must pass the Senate on its 3rd and last reading (the Assembly approved it by a vote of 64 to 9). The Senate might have its last vote as quickly as tomorrow.

The legislation, as modified, would permit a local government “to permit the making or discount of non-cannabis alcoholic or food items, as established, by an authorized retailer or small enterprises in the region in which the intake of marijuana is permitted, to permit the purchase and distribution of prepackaged, non-cannabis-infused, nonalcoholic beverages and food by an authorized seller, and to permit, and provide passes for, live musicals or additional performance.

Assembly Member: “Cannabis cafes in the Netherlands focus on the social enjoyment of cannabis by providing entertainment, meals, and caffeine, all of which are presently prohibited within California law.”
