A 20-year-old Texas woman who had been missing for over a week in western Texas was tragically found dead on Saturday

Madeline Pantoja was reported missing on May 11, with her phone and car still at her Midland home. This sparked an extensive search effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies. However, her remains were discovered in a rural area southeast of the city limits, nine days after her disappearance.

Shortly after the discovery, 24-year-old Mario Juan Chacon, Jr. was taken into custody on suspicion of murder in relation to Pantoja’s death. He is currently being held without bond at the Midland County Jail. It is unclear at this time whether Chacon has legal representation.

Authorities have not provided many details regarding the case, including the motive behind the killing or any prior connection between Chacon and the victim. The investigation into Pantoja’s death is ongoing, and an autopsy will be conducted in Dallas.

The search for Pantoja was an intense operation, with various agencies collaborating on a 24-hour basis

The FBI, Texas Rangers, Department of Homeland Security, and Midland County Sheriff’s Office all contributed to the search effort. Air and ground crews combed through approximately 60 square miles of remote property during the search.

In their pursuit of information, investigators executed over a dozen search warrants and interviewed more than 25 individuals. Prior to the discovery of Pantoja’s body, Midland Mayor Lori Blong announced a $20,000 reward for any information leading to her whereabouts. It is unclear at this time if anyone will claim the reward.

The tragic outcome has left Pantoja’s family and friends devastated. The community extends its heartfelt condolences to them during this difficult time.
