Attorney General Ken Paxton of Texas stated on Thursday that his state does not intend to follow the Biden administration’s directive to allow Border Patrol agents entry to a riverfront park that is at the core of a border conflict.

This week’s Supreme Court ruling, which gave Border Patrol officials permission to dismantle or eliminate razor wire Texas had set up across Shelby Park, is what prompted the defiance. The region has grown to be a well-traveled route used by migrants to enter the country illegally.

This month, Texas took over the park and started to ban Border Patrol personnel from entering, intensifying the conflict between Republican Governor Greg Abbott and the Biden administration, which the governor claims is not doing enough to stop illegal crossings.
