Despite being given the position, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis stated on Tuesday that he has no plans to stand for vice president in 2024 under the administration of former President Donald Trump.
He said that he would rather be a governor than the vice president and said that the former position “doesn’t have any power.”
DeSantis stated to the right-leaning podcast “Wisconsin Right Now” that he is “not a number 2 guy.”
“As governor of Florida, I believe I am a leader and have accomplished much. The vice president position doesn’t have any authority, so I feel I could accomplish more remaining there,” he continued.
He refused when asked to suggest two candidates for a running partner, stating that it seemed “a bit presumptuous” at this point in the campaign to suggest anyone in particular.
The question of whether DeSantis might think about Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as his potential running partner was also raised by podcast host Jim Piwowarczyk, which the governor similarly rejected, stating that he’d rather have a conservative candidate. Kennedy is competing for the Democratic Party’s candidacy for president.
