Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared on Wednesday that if he were to win the presidency, he might work to minimize the extent of government by attempting to shut down 4 federal agencies.
DeSantis responded when asked which departments he would want to close in discussion with Martha MacCallum of Fox News, “We would take over Education, we should do Commerce, we’d do Energy, and we’d do IRS.”
We’re going to have the ability to minimize the size and extent of government, he continued, “if Congress would cooperate with me on achieving that.” “If Congress fails to go far enough, I’ll continue to make use of these organizations to fight back towards woke philosophy and toward the leftism that we see affecting all organizations of American life,” the president said.
A demand for additional information regarding DeSantis’ comments received no immediate response from his team.
DeSantis has made an effort to set himself apart from Republican front-runner Donald Trump, at least by taking positions that are more liberal than those of the late president on several topics. He unexpectedly canceled a criminal justice reform package on Tuesday, refusing it despite strong bipartisan support in the Republican-controlled state Legislature.
