While their Senate counterparts pursue the first substantive bipartisan attempt to handle border security in over five years, Republicans in the lower chamber of Congress continued their efforts on Sunday to remove Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
A draft of the articles of removal that Congressman Mark Green of Tennessee intends to file against Mr. Mayorkas was made public on Sunday. Mr. Green’s legislation charges the secretary of intentionally breaking US immigration laws and betraying the public trust by allegedly lying to congressional investigators.
Mr. Mayorkas might become only the second Cabinet secretary to be convicted in history if the attempt were successful. But he won’t be because the Republican impeachment effort is bound to fail.
