To scold 1 of the chamber’s top members and inflame tensions on each side of the aisle, the House voted a discipline report on Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., on Wednesday night across party lines.
Republicans voted in favor, Democrats abstained, and 6 GOP lawmakers were present; the final result was 213-209.
Throughout inquiries into the links between the Trump campaign and Russia, which engaged in the 2016 election to support Trump, and the former president, Schiff, the chair of the intelligence committee, issued remarks that were later the subject of censure.
Schiff is criticized by the censure measure for “misleading the American people” and “behaving unworthy of an appointed Member of the House of Representatives.”
Even before now, Schiff referred to the criticism as “nonsense.”
The House Ethics Committee was tasked with looking into Schiff’s behavior by the resolution as well.
Members cheered as Schiff proceeded into the well following the vote on Wednesday, and he stood while Speaker Kevin McCarthy delivered the passed resolution loudly.
