Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) is making a statement after her son’s apprehension on Tuesday, which was related to many car burglary and property theft incidents in Rifle, Colorado.

Tyler Jay Boebert, 18, is being prosecuted on 22 counts, including 15 minor and small-time offenses, a single felony charge of conspiracy to commit felony crime, and 4 felony counts of criminal misuse of identification documents.

Although Lauren Boebert’s son “breaks my heart” over his detention, she said in a statement to HuffPost on Wednesday that he “is going to take charge of his behavior and must be held responsible for his poor decisions like any other citizen.”

You may read the entire statement below:

“I adore my son Tyler, who has faced some really tough times as a young man, including being the center of attention when he did not ask for it. Seeing my child struggle, especially in this circumstance, especially after so many chances to turn his life around, makes my heart hurt. I’ll always be supporting him, and I won’t give up on him. Tyler will accept responsibility for his acts as a grown-up and a dad, and he must be held responsible for his bad choices, similar to any citizen.”

Around 6 weeks have passed since Tyler Jay Boebert’s father, Jayson Boebert, was taken into custody on charges of third-degree felony trespass, blockage, and criminal mischief following a fight he made with Lauren Boebert at a restaurant in Colorado. After over 18 years of marriage, the couple filed for divorce a year ago.

The congresswoman is presently moving from Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District to the stricter 4th District in an attempt to increase her prospects of winning reelection.
