Numerous defendants who were found guilty of crimes associated with their participation in the riot on January 6, 2021, are requesting appeals under legislation that could eventually form a significant part of Donald Trump’s trial appeal.
On January 6, Trump was accused of 4 felonies, including obstructing an official proceeding. The January 6 suspects’ legal counsel is concentrating on the obstruction accusation as a strategy to get the Supreme Court to take it in and possibly rule in their favor and ultimately dismiss.
That same accusation has been used in a minimum of 310 cases including alleged January 6 participants, especially against well-known defendants who have previously received convictions and sentences, such as Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes and “QAnon Shaman” Jacob Chansley.
