Kerisha Johnson, 36, who was due to give birth within days, was fatally shot while picking people up from a party

Reports indicate that several individuals pulled out guns and opened fire on her car as she attempted to flee the scene. The suspects reportedly told police that they mistook Johnson’s car for a similar car that drove by the party earlier and fired shots into the air.

The three 19-year-old suspects, Marques Porch, Gregory Parker, and Derrick Curry, are currently being held at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of second-degree murder and first-degree feticide. It remains unclear if any of the suspects have entered pleas or retained attorneys.

Johnson’s friends and family members are mourning her senseless death

Childhood friend Deanna Williams described Johnson as “the goofiest friend” and “a very sweet person” who would “give you the shirt off her back.” Johnson had two other children who are now without a mother.

Crissina Finister, who identified herself as a friend and classmate of Johnson’s, wrote in a local community Facebook group, “Kerisha was the nicest, sweetest person you could ever meet. She didn’t deserve this.”

The shooting has left the community in shock and disbelief. It is a heartbreaking reminder of the devastating consequences of gun violence. Johnson’s death has left her loved ones and the community mourning the loss of a kind and innocent person, and the suspects facing serious criminal charges that could lead to life imprisonment. The case remains under investigation, and further details are expected to emerge as the investigation unfolds.
