In honor of Pride Month, a Philadelphia-based lawyer is embarking on a meaningful road trip to extend legal support to LGBTQ individuals in rural and underserved areas across the United States

Throughout the month of June, she will traverse 13 cities in a 32-foot RV, offering pro bono legal services to LGBTQ communities still battling for equal rights. While Philadelphia boasts legal protections for LGBTQ individuals, many other regions lack similar safeguards. Giampolo emphasizes that people in places like Alabama and Oklahoma face fears and challenges as they struggle for their basic needs, such as food, clothing, and shelter. Motivated by these disparities, she embarked on this journey on June 6.

The Caravan of Hope will begin its voyage from Philadelphia and make stops in cities such as Charlottesville, Virginia; Charlotte, North Carolina; Little Rock, Arkansas; Alabama; Laramie, Wyoming; Lincoln, Nebraska; Chicago, Illinois; Columbus, Ohio; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The journey will conclude back in Philadelphia on June 30, where legal services will be provided on the final day

Giampolo’s website highlights that LGBTQ individuals residing in the 29 states lacking laws against sexual orientation discrimination experience more significant disparities compared to the 21 states with such protections. These disparities are particularly amplified for Black LGBTQ people and transgender individuals. To ensure the safety of the vulnerable populations she aims to assist, Giampolo emphasizes strategic and, if necessary, covert outreach to identify underserved communities.

Through the Caravan of Hope, Angela Giampolo hopes to contribute to advancing LGBTQ rights by providing legal aid to those in need, promoting social acceptance, and addressing economic vulnerabilities faced by marginalized communities.
