Upon arrival, officers discovered two 14-year-old male juveniles, both injured in Omaha shooting. One of them had sustained gunshot wounds, while the other appeared to have been injured during an attempt to break into the car or escape from the gunfire from the Omaha shooting. Both were promptly taken to a hospital, treated, and subsequently released. Authorities are currently pursuing charges against them from the Omaha shooting.

The suspected shooter, who is believed to have a connection to the stolen Kia, had fled the scene before the police’s arrival, and efforts are underway to locate him

Legal experts have shed light on the situation, stating that under the law, the use of deadly force to prevent property theft is prohibited

The circumstances surrounding the Omaha shooting remain unclear, including whether the teenagers were armed or had posed a threat to the owner’s life, thereby potentially justifying the gunfire as an act of self-defense.

A similar incident had occurred in May at 40th and Vinton, where a 15-year-old was shot at by the owner of a Jeep he was attempting to steal during the early hours of the morning. Court records indicate that the vehicle owner did not face any charges related to the Omaha shooting, although unrelated drug charges led to his arrest.

While having a car stolen can be frustrating and costly, legal experts emphasize that the use of deadly force is not permissible unless there is a genuine fear for personal safety.
