Jessica Watkins, an Army veteran and member of the extreme political group Oath Keepers, received an imprisonment of 8.5 years in prison on Friday for her involvement in a scheme to prevent the certification of the 2020 presidential election, which concluded in an assault on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Judge Amit Mehta described Watkins’ actions in the Capitol as “violent” and claimed that although her subsequent apology, she did not feel regret at the time.
“Your part that day proved more violent, offensive, and intentional than possible others’ was. And you inspired others to help you achieve your goals, Mehta stated. “And in the short aftermath, there was no sensation of guilt or regret; on the other. Your remarks were joyous and lacked any real understanding of the seriousness of that.
A tiny militia that Watkins formed and oversaw in Ohio was gathered in Washington, DC, on January 6, in collaboration with the Oath Keepers, according to proof presented by the prosecution during the trial. In the end, Watkins and her coworkers proceeded to the Capitol while wearing tactical gear, where they pushed other rioters to overpower cops outside the Senate chamber.
