The catalyst for this apprehension was the NYC gang violence tragic stabbing of a 13-year-old boy aboard an MTA bus in Staten Island last Friday.
Amid mounting concerns about NYC gang violence, recent incidents involving teenagers have stirred alarm
This young victim had been striving for a promising future. Described as a “nice, kind, smart kid” who had a passion for sports, Syles Ular was under the mentorship of an organization committed to guiding youths away from the perilous streets. Regrettably, his aspirations were cut short by the very streets he sought to avoid.
Mike Perry, a member of the True 2 Life mentorship program and a survivor of NYC gang violence, expressed profound sorrow over the loss. He emphasized that their mission is relentless and doesn’t wait for tragedies to strike; it’s their life’s work.
Tragically, on that fateful Friday, a 14-year-old suspect allegedly fatally stabbed Ular in the chest on the bus. NYPD Chief of Patrol John Cho voiced concerns that this incident might have gang-related motivations, marking a troubling pattern.
The use of the word “again” about Ular’s death highlights the ongoing unease, as it is not an isolated occurrence
Shortly before the Staten Island tragedy, a 17-year-old girl was injured in a gang-related shooting near a public school in Brooklyn. While Schools Chancellor David Banks stressed the safety of schools, he acknowledged the need for enhanced communication with the NYPD to address issues persisting outside school premises. The city is approaching the fight against NYC gang violence step by step. Mike Perry underscored the grim reality that not everyone can be saved, but saving even one child is a cause worth every effort.
Despite the NYC gang violence challenges, Perry remains undeterred, emphasizing the urgency of continuing the fight and saving the next 13-year-old. The 14-year-old suspect in the Staten Island stabbing now faces a slew of charges, including murder and manslaughter, as law enforcement endeavors to bring justice to this tragic NYC gang violence.
