In the most recent effort under Governor Ron DeSantis to remove textbooks of disagreeable topics, particularly those related to current problems of race and justice for all, the state’s education department declared Tuesday that Florida has dismissed numerous social studies textbooks and is collaborating with authors to edit thousands more.
Due to what was believed to be “inaccurate stuff, mistakes, and additional data that did not comply with Florida law,” state officials first dismissed 82 out of 101 submitted textbooks, according to a news release from the Department of Education.
However, Florida collaborated with authors to make adjustments as part of a comprehensive effort to update the content, eventually authorizing 66 of the 101 textbooks. Following that procedure, 35 applicants were turned down.
Republican DeSantis has run for office talking out against “woke indoctrination” and a communist agenda in the school. Numerous math textbooks were disapproved by the state this past year on the basis that they discussed illegal subjects, such as social-emotional learning and critical racial theory, which is currently under attack from the right.
