Nora Rodgers pleaded guilty to nine counts of Cruelty to Children in the First Degree on October 9, as per an official statement from the Newton County District Attorney’s Office

The legal proceedings stemmed from an incident in October 2020 when law enforcement responded to a concerned relative’s report, leading them to Nora Rodgers’ residence. The three children, aged nine, eight, and six, were discovered with visible signs of physical abuse, ranging from bruises to severe swelling. Shockingly, the youngest victim, a six-year-old girl, suffered the most significant injuries, including a broken elbow and severe internal trauma requiring urgent intervention from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s trauma team.

Nora Rodgers subjected the children to extreme boot camp-style exercises, pushing them to the brink of exhaustion and injury with activities such as running laps, squats with large logs, and jumping jacks. These exercises were not only physically demanding but were also carried out in the middle of the night and during the scorching summer heat.

Nora Rodgers resorted to malnutrition as a form of punishment, imposing strict time limits on meals and blending solid foods into a drink for quick consumption

Shockingly, her biological children living in the same household were exempt from these harsh practices. In a sentencing hearing on December 12, Nora Rodgers was sentenced to 60 years on probation, with the first 30 years to be served behind bars. Impact statements from the child victims, foster parents, a social worker, and the children’s grandmother highlighted the profound and lasting impact of Nora Rodgers’ abuse. District Attorney Randy McGinley acknowledged the dedicated efforts of the prosecution team, ensuring justice without subjecting the children to lengthy testimony and the ordeal of reliving their abuse.

McGinley stated. “While Nora Rodgers put herself above the well-being of the kids, so many others fought for them,” the statement concluded, recognizing the crucial role played by foster parents and the children’s family in reporting the abuse and providing care after the victims were removed from Nora Rodgers’ home.
