Who is Monica De Leon Barba?
According to FBI officials in San Francisco, Monica De Leon Barba, a US citizen who was kidnapped last November while walking home in Mexico, is being transferred to the US after her captors released her.
The FBI said on Saturday that Monica De Leon Barba, who had been held captive for eight months, was safe and on her way to the US, where she will be reunited with her family and dog.
According to the FBI, Monica De Leon Barba was freed by her kidnappers on Friday night.
In November, as Monica De Leon Barba walked home from work with her dog in Tepatitlán, Jalisco, Mexico, she was abducted, according to the update.
Prior to now, the FBI had stated that it would pay up to $40,000 in exchange for information that would help them find Monica De Leon Barba. The FBI first made their investigation into the kidnapping public with the announcement of the reward in March.
According to the FBI’s social media statement on Saturday, authorities have not made any arrests and are still looking into who the captors are of Monica De Leon Barba.
The FBI’s investigation is far from over, but Robert K. Tripp, the special agent in charge of the investigation, said in a statement posted on Twitter that “we can now work this case knowing an innocent victim (Monica De Leon Barba) is reunited with her family.”
At the time of the kidnapping, the FBI stated that “Monica was confronted by several suspects and forced into a gray Volkswagen Jetta,” after which the suspects fled in three different vehicles, including the Jetta.
According to the FBI, the videos proved that the kidnapping involved at least five people.
Later, the victim’s dog was discovered stray in the street and given back to de Leon’s family.
Monica De Leon Barba may be seen cuddling with and patting her puppy in many pictures that were released to the public over the weekend by Monica De Leon Barba’s family.
