The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department confirmed on Tuesday that the human remains discovered by hikers on Saturday morning belonged to the 65-year-old actor.
British actor Julian Sands, who had been missing for over five months after going hiking on Southern California’s Mount Baldy, has been found deceased
Julian Sands, a resident of Los Angeles, was initially reported missing on January 13 while hiking in the popular area of Mt. Baldy, located in the San Gabriel Mountains, approximately 50 miles northeast of downtown L.A. During that winter, California experienced severe storms caused by atmospheric rivers, resulting in widespread flooding, mudslides, and hazardous conditions in wilderness areas.
Tragically, Sands’ disappearance was not an isolated incident. Just two days after he went missing, a mother of four lost her life after sliding down Mt. Baldy for over 500 feet. Additionally, in the same month, a 75-year-old man was successfully rescued after being missing on the mountain for two days.
Despite multiple search efforts, including one as recent as June 17 involving over 80 volunteers, deputies, and staff, Sands could not be located
Extreme alpine conditions had rendered portions of the mountain inaccessible, hampering the search operation. Julian Sands had an illustrious career spanning five decades, with numerous film and television credits to his name. Some of his notable works include “A Room with a View,” “Leaving Las Vegas,” “The Killing Fields,” “Ocean’s Thirteen,” and “24.”
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Julian Sands’ death is still ongoing.
