The young girl, identified as Sequoia Samuels, had been missing since Thursday, June 15, and law enforcement officials suspect that she had already been deceased for several weeks before she was reported missing.
Authorities have made a significant discovery that is believed to be the remains of a 4-year-old girl in a trash bag who was reported missing earlier this week in Memphis
Sequoia also spelled Saquoia, was reported missing from the Uptown neighborhood of Memphis. The child had a known medical condition, adding to the urgency of the search efforts. Multiple law enforcement agencies joined forces in an exhaustive search to find Sequoia. Their relentless efforts led them to a body in close proximity to the apartment where Sequoia lived with her family. Although the body has not been positively identified yet, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced on Friday, June 16, that they have discontinued the search for Sequoia, believing she is no longer alive.
The investigation took a distressing turn when Sequoia’s mother, Brittney Jackson, was taken into custody by the Memphis Police on charges of aggravated child neglect, abuse of a corpse, and filing a false offense report. Additionally, Jackson’s boyfriend, Jaylon Hobson, was arrested for filing a false offense report. Court documents mentioned by the Memphis Commercial Appeal revealed shocking details. Jackson initially claimed that she had last seen her daughter on Wednesday night before putting her to bed. She stated that she fell asleep on the couch and woke up to discover that Sequoia was missing after receiving messages from concerned family members about an open front door.
Jackson changed her account and alleged that Hobson had physically assaulted Sequoia multiple times a few weeks earlier
According to the affidavit, the little girl became unresponsive following one of these attacks and eventually passed away. Disturbingly, Jackson admitted to maintaining the deceased child’s body for several weeks before disposing of it in a trash container.
Hobson denied any involvement in Sequoia’s death and claimed to have last seen her on June 11. Detectives, however, deemed this impossible due to the advanced decomposition of the remains, strongly believed to be those of Sequoia Samuels.
The local community mourns the loss of the young girl, while law enforcement continues their investigation to uncover all the facts surrounding this tragic case.
