A group of 2,000 migrants is making their way from Mexico to the US in what is being called the first caravan of 2025. Their aim is to reach the US border before the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.
Before the inauguration of Donald Trump on January 20, there is an anticipation of more large-scale groups making their way to the United States. Trump has made it clear that he intends to implement an extensive crackdown on immigration.
According to Border Report, the current group was moving from southern Mexico on Friday.
On Friday, a group of around 2,000 migrants embarked on a journey towards the United States. This new caravan sets off with hopes of reaching their desired destination.
The first caravan of 2025 is anticipated to arrive at the US border in the upcoming days. Since October, the caravan has formed as the 10th group of individuals heading towards the United States.
The latest migrant caravan is hopeful that the US and Mexico can come to a “humanitarian” agreement on migration.
Luis Garcia Villagran, director of the Center for Human Dignity and a caravan leader, emphasized the need for both the Mexican and United States governments to come to an agreement in order to establish humanitarian policies that will benefit all individuals involved. This statement was made during a press conference on Thursday.
“We are not criminals. All we want is a chance at a better life,” stated Villagran.
According to Border Report, shelters in northern Mexico are witnessing a renewed surge in migrant arrivals. There is growing concern among these shelters that the numbers could further increase once President Trump starts implementing his planned mass deportations.
According to the Rev. Francisco Gonzalez, his 11 shelters in northern Mexico are currently making preparations to receive those who will attempt to cross the border before Trump assumes office.

In a news conference on Friday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo expressed her disapproval of President Trump’s mass deportation plan.
During a news conference, Sheinbaum expressed the intention to request the United States to consider the possibility of repatriating non-Mexican migrants to their respective countries of origin.
“If not, we can work together through various means. If these deportations take place, there will be an opportunity to discuss this with the US government. However, we will welcome the migrants and ensure they are received with kindness and care.”
