Gerald Hurt repeatedly violated a restraining order that had been issued against him, leading to his arrest in December.
Gerald Hurt, a 52-year-old man from Manhattan, has been sentenced to 30 days in jail for his persistent harassment of CNN host Anderson Cooper
Gerald Hurt faced charges of misdemeanor stalking, menacing, trespassing, and criminal contempt due to his consistent disregard for the restraining order. In response, the court has imposed a 5-year restraining order against Gerald Hurt, specifically preventing him from contacting Cooper.
Gerald Hurt’s troubling actions began in August 2022, when he initially visited Cooper’s residence, falsely claiming to have a package for delivery. He refused to leave even after being asked to do so by an occupant. The situation escalated in September when Gerald Hurt returned and tried to reach through the door to grab Cooper.
This escalated even further in November when he left his contact information and a request for Cooper to reach out on the doorstep while speaking with Cooper’s partner, Benjamin Maisani
The disturbing pattern continued as Gerald Hurt came back to the residence in December. At this point, Maisani informed him about the restraining order, to which Gerald Hurt dismissively referred to as a “fake order.” These repeated incidents of intrusion and harassment have culminated in Gerald Hurt’s sentencing and underscore the serious consequences of such actions.
