FULLERTON (CNS) – A 34-year-old man wanted on warrants for sexual assault and assault on a police officer was arrested on suspicion of trespassing in a Cal State Fullerton building on Thursday, according to police.
According to jail records, Romayne Demetrice Bassingame was being held on a $21,500 bond.
At about 12:35 a.m., campus officers on patrol noticed a door smash at Mihaylo Hall. Cal State Fullerton police Capt. Scot Willey claimed he saw Blassingame leave on Thursday.
Because most staff and students are on summer vacation, local transients break into campus facilities around this time of year, according to Willey.
“We’re not even sure how he got in unless he was there before they locked up,” Willey explained. “That’s not uncommon. We have people prop doors open all the time. It’s a constant challenge.”
Police intended to cite him for trespassing and asked for his ID, but he threw his wallet at them and fled, according to Willey. According to Willey, the defendant had five outstanding warrants, including burglary and theft.
Willey added that police discovered 25 throwing stars on him, which is a felony on a school campus. Willey added that police discovered what seemed to be methamphetamine on him.
