A 46-year-old man, Carlton Gray, is now facing several serious felony charges after police say he tried to kill his estranged wife not once, but twice — in two terrifying incidents just one day apart.
First Incident: Dangerous Attempt Outside Her Workplace
The first attack happened outside the Goodwill store in Indianapolis where the woman worked. According to police reports, Gray tried to run her over with his car. She told authorities that Gray had been harassing her at work for some time and had even threatened her life, saying, “I’m going to kill you.” Thankfully, she managed to get away unharmed that day.
Second Incident: Shooting at Her Home
Just one day later, things took a turn for the worse. Gray allegedly broke into a home where his estranged wife was staying and fired five shots, hitting her in the leg. Despite the injury, she survived and was able to give police important details to help with the investigation.
Legal Action: Charges and Court Proceedings
Carlton Gray was arrested and taken to Marion County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including two counts of attempted murder, two counts of intimidation, burglary, battery with a deadly weapon, and illegal possession of a firearm. His past criminal record shows a history of violence, including a domestic battery arrest in 2005.
During a court hearing on Thursday, Gray was granted a $200,000 bond and ordered not to contact the victim. If he is released, he must wear a GPS monitor and stay at home under strict supervision. His next court date is scheduled for June 11.
Community Concerns and Safety Reminders
This frightening case has raised awareness about the dangers of domestic violence and the need for better safety measures at workplaces. Officials are encouraging anyone facing threats or harassment to report them and seek help immediately. While Goodwill Industries has not commented publicly, they are cooperating fully with law enforcement.
