Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón stated on Thursday, June 8, that his office is charging San Fernando Police Officer Jeffrey King with second-degree robbery and extortion, as well as petty theft. The case warrant was issued on June 6.

On June 21, 2022, King attended to a report of domestic abuse at a home in San Fernando and detained a suspect. The defendant was freed from custody on June 23, according to the District Attorney’s Office, and he “reported that he was missing money that he had in his pocket during the arrest.”

The District Attorney’s Office claims that during the suspect’s detention, King “took cellphones and cash” from his pockets. He allegedly handed over the smartphones to a supervisor, but he never turned over the cash as evidence or returned the money to the suspect.

The amount of money stolen from the domestic violence suspect was not disclosed by the District Attorney’s Office.

The arraignment of King will take place at a later date.

According to Gascón, “Law enforcement officers take an oath to uphold the law, not to break it. Maintaining integrity is a fundamental principle of law enforcement, and stealing personal belongings during an arrest is a clear violation of that trust.”
