A lady is accused of shaking and throwing her infant daughter to the ground and killing her.
Kia Barkley, 31, of Clinton Township, Michigan, is charged with felony homicide and first-degree child abuse, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.
She was arrested on June 8th and arraigned the next day.
“It is alleged that on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, Kia Barkley shook and threw her one-month-old daughter to the ground,” prosecutors said.
The youngster, who officials did not name in their press statement, was transferred to a hospital and died about a month later from her injuries, they added.
Barkley’s bond was set at one million dollars in cash.
“If a bond is met, Barkley will wear a GPS tether and be placed under house arrest,” authorities added.
Her preliminary hearing is planned for June 20.
“In the pursuit of justice, we must confront the most heart-wrenching of cases, where the innocent are silenced and lives are abruptly cut short,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. “Our commitment is to defend the defenseless and hold those who commit unspeakable acts against the innocent accountable.”
According to jail records, Barkley is also being held for eight Detroit traffic warrants totaling $1,000.
