Kentucky Man Arrested for Attacking Police Officers

Peter Schwartz, a 49-year-old Kentucky man, was arrested after attacking police officers during a riot in the U.S. Capitol with his wife, which injured over 100 police officers.

The Kentucky man reportedly attacked police officers with pepper spray and folding chairs, which contributed to the fall of the police officers’ line stopping the rioters, who eventually took over the entire Capitol’s Lower West Terrace.

According to AP News, over 1,000 people were arrested after the riot, and almost 500 have already received their sentences for joining the riot and attacking police officers.

During the investigation, the Kentucky man claimed he regretted everything that happened during the riot, especially the damage that had been done. His attorneys also stated that his involvement in the riot resulted only from a misunderstanding regarding the 2020 presidential election fraud claims.

The prosecutors initially recommended that the Kentucky man be sentenced to 24 years and 6 months in jail; however, the District Judge gave him a 14-year and two-month sentence, the longest sentence imposed, and a three-year supervised release.
