KCMO Family Raises Funds for Son’s Genetic Illness With Christmas Lights

A small boy from Kansas City, Missouri, has a rare hereditary condition, and his family is hoping for a miracle to heal him of it.

Six-year-old Charlie Fry is fighting an uncommon neurological disorder called SLC6A1, which presents a unique challenge. There are fewer than 300 cases of this illness worldwide.

Charlie’s mother, Kim Fry, said that SLC6A1 presents as a seizure disease that results in behavioral problems and learning difficulties. It has also resulted in the diagnosis of autism and ADHD. She said that as of right now, Charlie is the only kid in Kansas City known to have this illness.

Raising awareness and obtaining financing for discovering a cure has become the Fry family’s life’s work.
