John Turscak, 52, has been accused of attempting to kill Derek Chauvin, the former police officer who is best known for his role in George Floyd’s death, in a recent event that has attracted a lot of attention. On November 26, 2023, in the law library of the Tucson Federal Correctional Institution, Turscak was accused of stabbing Chauvin 22 times with a homemade knife.
Turscak’s convictions and connections seem to have played a significant role in driving him to launch the attack. Because of Chauvin’s prominent position, he had been thinking of assaulting him for around a month, he disclosed in a post-Miranda interview with FBI investigators. Turscak selected Black Friday as the attack date because it represents both the “Black Hand” symbol and the Black Lives Matter movement.
