The incident occurred on July 28 when the suspect James Wear, shattered the front glass door using a hammer, making off with approximately $14,000 worth of comic books.
James Wear, a 35-year-old Nederland resident, has been apprehended by the Boulder Police Department on August 11 in connection with a break-in at Time Warp Comics and Games on 28th Street in Boulder
James Wear faces multiple charges, including second-degree burglary, theft, criminal mischief, and violations of a protection order. He might face arraignment as soon as Sunday, August 13.
Time Warp owner Wayne Winsett expressed relief over the progress in the case, stating that the police detective informed him of James Wear’s arrest on Friday night. Although the recovery of stolen comic books is ongoing, ten of them were found at KaPow Comics and Coffee in Colorado Springs. Martin Davidson, the owner of KaPow Comics, recognized the missing books when reading a news article about the theft. James Wear’s Facebook profile, which had provided leads, has been removed.

Upon contacting the store, they admitted buying seven of the stolen books and expressed willingness to return them. Despite this cooperation, one of the books had already been sold, posing challenges in their recovery.
Rita Rollman, a customer of Time Warp, played a pivotal role in spreading information about the theft. She contacted various comic book stores and media outlets, which eventually led to the connection between the stolen and recovered books. A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated by Rollman and other friends of Time Warp to aid in recuperating the losses and enhancing security measures for the store.
Owner Wayne Winsett commended the support of the community, emphasizing the significance of the store to its patrons. Despite the challenges posed by the incident, the unity and solidarity displayed by customers have been heartwarming for the Time Warp team.
